# 23 -- week 9 -- Final Thoughts

This has been an incredible journey. I have learn a little bit about the Internet and honestly there were online applications that made me realize: a personal computer is a thing of the past! With this course I learn that I can created a page to put my thoughts (like blogs), I can store my pictures ( like flickr), I can fun with images and text, I can watch videos ( in youtube), listen to podcasts (in itunes), write and store a document (in zohowriter), have my own favorite links in one place (in bloglines), read books from the comfort of my own bed (with ebooks), and so much more!
There were moments when I thought that I was not going to be able to finish. But I didn't want to feel like everything was lost, and I kept going. Doing the RSS Feeds exercises, I felt a little bit overwhelmed. I learned to do my best and keep going.
I'll definitely do it all over again.

# 22 week 9 -- ebooks

Working at the library, I haven't help anybody with an ebook question. Maybe the reason is because looking for an ebook at the sjpl ebook catalog is not very friendly. I tried to look for any book but with no succeed. Then I click on the worldlibrary link. It has a very helpful page, where one can see the book covers. This is very nice, because sometimes we want to see how the book looks like, or we don't know the exact title. Overall, I think ebooks are helpful for when we need to read, maybe a manual or manuscript, and we can't located it on the library. Some books are very popular and having them as ebooks will definitely reach to more people. One of the downsides is the fact that reading from the computer screen can be very tiring. Also, one have to be sure there is enough space for a book download.

# 21 week 9 -- Podcasts

Funny thing... I do have itunes at home. Unfortunately, I haven't listen to a podcast prior this exercise. I found it very interesting. To me, it feels like listen to the radio, well it sound way better. I add two rss feeds to my blogline account, and in the search I saw podcast from other libraries. When I tried to search for a podcast from the San Jose library, there was not a successful search.

# 20 week 9 -- YouTube

I just recently use YouTube... I was playing online when somebody said something about a video in youtube about Dofus ( the online game ), so I went to see what it was about. This is what I found.. ( hopefully I'll be able to upload the video properly )

I asked for help to post the video. There are many videos out there, but I'm still a little reserved on watching them. I know youtube is very popular right now, so there's a lot of videos that may not be worth seeing. In my experience, it took me a while to find something nice.

# 19 week 8 -- LibraryThing

Here is my list. First, I choose to make a manga list because that's what I love. If I didn't have this time restriction I would still adding some titles. Hehehehe. I think LibraryThing is a great way to store and share all those great books that one read. Also, reading what other think about the same book is very interesting. I was surprise on how many people also choose some of the mangas that I chose. It range from 300's to only 3. To be honest, I was trying to come up with the one title that nobody has added to their list! hahaha It was fun. In addition, I like that we can choose on showing the cover or having a list.

# 18 week 8 -- zoho writer

I just want to say... I may not need a new computer after this! This is the first time I use Zoho Writer and it looks way better than the application that I have at my computer. This online tool is a must for students or people with no computer at home. I could even put smileys on my document. ^_^

# 17 week 7 sandbox wiki

I added my blog to the list. ^_^ Also, this is my favorite movie entry. ... well, Star Wars is the 2nd movie that comes to my mind.

# 16 week 7 -- wikis

I had use wikipedia before,... well a little... but I have never heard of wikis ? I'm beginning to see all the wonderful online tools thanks to library 2.0 I find interesting that one can created a page on any subject, and have the support of other people to make it grow. There isn't just 1 webmaster, but the contribution of several. Using wikis for library use would be a very good idea, just like other libraries have been doing. It could be about events in the library, new collections, services, new policies, etc.

# 15 week 6 -- Library 2.0

I remember when in college, almost 10 years ago, I got a stamp on a book that I borrow from the library. It was the due date of the book. Whatever happen to those due-date stamps ? They evolve. Just like the rest of the world is going more high tech, libraries can't be left behind. To me, Library 2.0 sounds like the name of the software that the library is now operating. It is true that libraries are now offering more services and reaching more people, improving their collections, bringing more updated, and faster information. But as a patron once told me about the self-check machines, " I don't like them, I miss checking out books at the librarian desk because they used to tell me how good or bad they [ the books ] are." Some people might argue that the concept of a more futuristic library is too conceptual or unrealistic. Well, we are seeing more people accessing their accounts online to either renew or pay their fines. People are getting more used to using online tools from browsing the catalog to requesting books through Link+ or Interlibrary Loan. Whether we like it or not, the future is here and libraries will continue find ways to be as accessible to people as possible, either online or at the actual library.

# 14 week 6 -- Technorati

This are the results of the search " learning 2.0 " at Technorati :
  • in blog posts: There's a list of all the blogs that have learning and 2.0 in any part of their content. Obviously, this is not the best way to find the right info.
  • in tags: It shows all the blogs that have tag learning 2.0 on their blogs. Also, it shows a list of videos and photos with the same tags.
  • in blog directory: This is the best way to find the right blog. It shows all the blogs that have learning 2.0 on their title or are about the topic.

I think it is very important to learn the proper use of tagging so we can find the right information faster and accurate.

#13 week 6 --Del.icio.us

First thing I have to say, "Thank God it was not required to open an account!" With that said... Del.icio.us is a very new tool for me. Basically, it will help organize all your bookmarks and will made it possible to use it online. I am beginning to see, through out this course, that make programs are becoming more available online and not limited to one 'personal' computer. It is becoming the "online" personal computer. Del.icio.us is a great tool for people that need to research for information on a daily basics. Librarians are a great example. Also, students that may not have computers at home, since all this bookmarks are store online.

# 12 week 5 -- Rollyo

here is the link to my account: http://rollyo.com/lunasele/reference_search
What to say about Rollyo? hmm... I did not like it. At first it look complicated, then it remained me of Bloglines. I mean, it looks like another program that put all your links in one place... then I look Rollyo as what it was: a program that puts all your "references" links in one place. If I'm looking for info on a certain topic, just log into Rollyo and they there are, my group of trusted links... that will help me find the info. Instead of searching each page individually, Rollyo search in all of them. ... I think I'm beginning to understand Rollyo. ^_^ The only bad thing about it, at least for me, was that it takes time to understand how Rollyo works.

# 11 Week 5 -- Web 2.0

I choose meebo.com because of all the sites, this one caught my attention. Meebo is a messaging program, and since there are several sites that offer this service like yahoo or hotmail, Meebo lets you log in from there page to any messenger program. And the best option is that not download is required. This tool is design to be use on any computer because one does not need to install any additional software. Also, Meebo offer an IM window that anybody can install on one's web page. So, chatting with someone that visits your page is make easy. It is called: Meebo me and I think this could be a convenient tool for a library page ( in the help section ) Patrons can post questions and get their answers right away.

Glitter Text Generator & Glittler GraphicsGlitter Text Generator & Glittler GraphicsGlitter Text Generator & Glittler GraphicsGlitter Text Generator & Glittler GraphicsGlitter Text Generator & Glittler Graphics
http://www.webpixie.net

I had fun with this exercise. Finding the right generator was not easy for me... I couldn't think of anything funny. Well, here are two that I like and find the way to upload to my blog properly. I just realize that for people that created pages and want it to make it more appealing.... using generators are a plus! Besides one have to put a lot of time to find the right one. Anyway, they are really fun!
